Police hunting for Sedona woman found guilty of attacking officer with crowbar

PHOENIX — Authorities in northern Arizona are searching for a Sedona woman who failed to appear Thursday for the final day of her trial, where she faced charges of attacking a police officer with a crowbar.

Erica Ann Montgomery, 48, assaulted an officer with the Sedona Police Department on Nov. 3, 2023, according to the Yavapai County Attorney’s Office.

A Yavapai County Jury handed the absent Montgomery a guilty verdict for aggravated assault with a deadly weapon against a peace officer, one count of resisting arrest and two additional counts of aggravated assault on an officer.

Montgomery faces a prison sentence between 10.5 and 21 years for aggravated assault with a deadly weapon against a peace officer as well as up to 6.5 years for the other charges.

The crime took place after she ran a red light and an officer discovered her license plate was suspended, prosecutors said.

Montgomery became verbally aggressive, refused to exit the car so her plate could be recorded and tried to roll up her window and lock her car door.

A struggle ensued, and Montgomery punched the police officer in the chest multiple times before striking the officer’s head with a crowbar, prosecutors said. The crowbar attack left him with a concussion.

She also injured another police officer who responded to the scene to assist.
