Glendale Community College breaks ground on new Innovation Lab

PHOENIX — Glendale Community College (GCC) broke ground on a new Innovation Lab in late April, the college announced Tuesday.

The lab will be located on the northeast corner of GCC’s campus and is anticipated to be complete in April 2026.

The project is meant to support and expand the college’s programs in engineering technology, robotics, automation, drone technology, computer science, data analysis, artificial intelligence, woodworking and fabrication by creating a cross-disciplinary hub.

“Our vision is to build a space where innovation thrives — a dynamic environment that bridges disciplines and empowers students with hands-on, job-ready skills.” Dean of Academic Affairs for Career & Technical Education Susan Campbell said in a press release.

Campbell was one of the people who spearheaded the lab alongside Elena Beltran, the STEM connect program manager.

How will the Innovation Lab add to Glendale Community College?

Once completed, the lab will feature a virtual reality/augmented reality classroom and lab, a computer lab and fully equipped workshop. A variety of tools and equipment will be available for students, including a table saw, band saw, CNC routers, lathes, mills, laser cutters, drills, 3D printers and a welding station tailored for small-scale projects.

The lab will not only expand the college’s course offerings but provide students with more advanced learning opportunities in engineering technology, advanced manufacturing, immersive technologies and more.

The project supports GCC’s mission to prepare students with industry-relevant skills in order to meet the growing workforce demands.

The architectural design for the lab was done by Holly Street Studio and the construction will be overseen by Danson Construction.
