Deck Park Tunnel maintenance to impede downtown Phoenix traffic

PHOENIX – Downtown Phoenix traffic might have to detour this weekend due to Deck Park Tunnel maintenance.

Tunnel-related closures on Interstate 10 are joined by multiple other restrictions on the Arizona Department of Transportation Weekend Freeway Travel Advisory for May 16-19. (All times below are subject to change.)

First, eastbound I-10 will be closed from the I-17 “Stack” interchange to the State Route 51 “Mini-Stack” from 9 p.m. Friday to 9 a.m. Saturday so crews can complete scheduled tunnel maintenance.

Next, the westbound side of I-10 will be closed from the I-17 “Split” interchange near Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport to Seventh Avenue from 9 p.m. Saturday to 9 a.m. Sunday for the same reason.

What are the weekend issues other than downtown Phoenix traffic?

One other section of Valley freeway will be fully closed this weekend. The eastbound Loop 101 Agua Fria Freeway is shutting down from 59th Avenue in Glendale to I-17 in Phoenix from 10 p.m. Friday to 5 a.m. Monday for work on an ongoing widening project.

The eastbound Loop 101 on-ramps at Union Hills Drive, 75th Avenue and 67th Avenue also will be closed.

In addition, the following ramps and surface streets will be impacted by freeway construction in the coming days:

• The southbound SR 143 ramps to eastbound I-10 in Phoenix are closing from 10 p.m. Friday to 4 a.m. Monday along with the eastbound I-10 on-ramp at Broadway Road for Broadway Curve Improvement Project bridge work.
• The westbound I-10 local lanes from Broadway Road to SR 143 are closing from 10 p.m. Saturday to 6 a.m. Sunday.
• Frank Lloyd Wright Boulevard is closing in both directions at the Loop 101 Pima Freeway from 10 p.m. Friday to 2 p.m. Saturday.
• The southbound I-17 off-ramp at Bell Road in north Phoenix is closing from 9 p.m. Friday to 5 a.m. Monday.
• The SR 51 off-ramps from both directions at Bethany Home Road in Phoenix are closing from 9 p.m. Friday to 5 a.m. Monday.
• Arizona Avenue in Chandler is closing in both directions at the Loop 202 Santan Freeway from 1 a.m. Saturday to 5 a.m. Monday.
• The westbound Loop 202 on-ramp at Gilbert Road is closing from 10 p.m. Friday to 5 p.m. Sunday.
• The westbound Loop 202 off-ramp at Arizona Avenue is closing from 10 p.m. Friday to 3 p.m. Saturday.
