PHOENIX – If you need to drive in Scottsdale this weekend, make sure to plan for a significant freeway detour.

Motorists will have to make do without 4.5 miles of the northbound Loop 101 Pima Freeway, according to the Arizona Department of Transportation Weekend Freeway Travel Advisory for May 2-5. (All times below are subject to change.)

The freeway will close from Shea Boulevard to the Pima Road/Princess Drive exit from 10 p.m. Friday to 5 a.m. Monday for work on a widening project.

The ramps from Via De Ventura and 90th Street to northbound Loop 101 also will close.

Traffic that exits at Shea Boulevard can use Scottsdale Road to reconnect with the freeway further north.

Drivers can also opt to take the westbound Loop 202 Red Mountain Freeway to northbound State Route 51 (Piestewa Freeway), which intersects with the Loop 101 in north Phoenix.

Loop 101 isn’t the only Valley freeway with restrictions this weekend

While there are no other full freeway closures on tap this weekend, there are other construction-related road restrictions.

In Phoenix, westbound Interstate 10 will be reduced to four lanes, with the right lanes closed, from SR 143 (Hohokam Expressway) to 32nd Street from 10 p.m. Friday to 4 a.m. Monday for Broadway Curve Improvement Project pavement work.

In addition, the following ramps will close as part of the weekend Broadway Curve plan:

  • Southbound SR 143 ramp to westbound I-10.
  • Westbound I-10 off-ramp and on-ramp at 40th Street.
  • Westbound I-10 off-ramp at 32nd Street.
  • Westbound I-10 on-ramp at Broadway Road.

Elsewhere, the westbound Loop 202 Santan Freeway on-ramp at McQueen Road and off-ramp at Arizona Avenue will be closed from 10 p.m. Friday to 3 p.m. Saturday for bridge work as part of an East Valley widening project.

In addition, the right lane of westbound Loop 202 will close in Chandler from McQueen Road to Arizona Avenue.
