Gov. Katie Hobbs says Arizona is ‘open for business’ following Axon bill signing

PHOENIX — Gov. Katie Hobbs said Arizona is ‘open for business’ following the signing of a bill that cleared the way for Axon to build a headquarters and apartment complex in Scottsdale.

Hobbs joined KTAR News 92.3 FM’s Bruce & Gaydos on Thursday and expressed her support for Axon after signing a bill on April 18 that cleared the way for Axon’s new developments.

“I’m very excited about (the bill) and it sends a message that Arizona is open for business and we’re not gonna let politicians use the government to shut business down,” Hobbs said.

Axon was founded in 1993 and makes tasers, weapons and other technology for law enforcement, military and civilian use.

The bill’s passing received some pushback, including from Scottsdale Mayor Lisa Borowsky, who expressed her concerns over the bill and told KTAR News 92.3 FM’s The Mike Broomhead Show on April 22 that she didn’t think Scottsdale needed any more apartments.

Hobbs said on Thursday she had not spoken to Borowsky about her concerns over the bill. Hobbs added that she supports Axon remaining in Arizona and that workers for the company will not have to move their families out of the state due to the bill’s passing.

“I stood with thousands of Arizona workers who live here and have families here and who are now not gonna have to uproot their families to move to Texas or Florida because this company was born and raised in Arizona and is going to be able to stay here and grow,” Hobbs said.
