Suspect arrested after allegedly assaulting West Valley police sergeant

PHOENIX – A man was arrested early Thursday after allegedly assaulting a West Valley police sergeant, authorities said.

While the sergeant was on his way to an injury collision involving a pedestrian around 4:45 a.m., he encountered a speeding vehicle, according to the Goodyear Police Department.

The sergeant attempted a traffic stop, but the vehicle was slow to respond.

Where did alleged assault on West Valley police sergeant occur?

The driver, 28-year-old Cameron Doyle, eventually stopped on eastbound Interstate 10 and then allegedly assaulted the sergeant.

Doyle was taken into custody and booked into jail on suspicion of aggravated assault on law enforcement along with traffic charges, police said.

Police said he is not connected to the initial vehicle-pedestrian collision, which occurred near Litchfield and McDowell roads

The man struck in that case was hospitalized with life-threatening injuries.

The driver of the vehicle remained on the scene and was cooperating with investigators, police said.
