Upcoming electric vehicle showcase gives Phoenix drivers chance to try EVs

PHOENIX — Want to feel the difference between a gas and electric vehicle? Just stop by South Mountain Community College for the second annual DRIVE Electric Earth Month EV Ride and Drive on April 19.

It’s an event that showcases the differences and potential benefits for those new to EVs by letting them drive or ride in one over a 4-mile local route.

The owners who volunteered their cars and trucks for the event, which runs from 8 a.m. to noon, will be available as advocates and to answer any questions.

Interested drivers can RSVP for the free event ahead of time.

Phoenix event is part of annual electric vehicle campaign

Drive Electric Earth Month is a national campaign held each April to promote electric vehicles.

The city of Phoenix, Salt River Project, Valley of the Sun EVA and Valley of the Sun Clean Cities Coalition are helping out with the event at South Mountain Community College, which is located near 24th Street and Baseline Road.

The city of Phoenix has a goal of reducing greenhouse gas emissions by 50% by 2030 and to net-zero by 2050. EVs can help the city get closer as they have no tailpipe emissions and reduce the demand for fossil fuels.
