Arizona man arrested for allegedly using machete on a pig

A pig was euthanized last week after an Arizona man allegedly hacked it with a machete, authorities said.

PHOENIX – A pig was euthanized last week after an Arizona man allegedly hacked it with a machete, authorities said.

Deputies responded to a livestock call about a large pig with severe injuries on its back in Mohave Valley around 2 p.m. Thursday, according to the Mohave County Sheriff’s Office (MCSO).

The animal was suffering from four deep lacerations on its back and having trouble breathing, so the decision was made to euthanize it.

What happened after pig was euthanized?

A witness reported seeing 56-year-old Harold Gene Smith hitting the pig with a machete a day earlier.

Deputies contacted Smith, who allegedly admitted to using a machete on the animal, according to MCSO.

Smith was arrested and booked into the Mohave County Jail in Kingman for animal cruelty.

Mohave Valley is an an unincorporated community on the Arizona-California border north of Lake Havasu City.
