Valley forecast for next 2 days includes cooldown, gusty winds, chance for rain

PHOENIX – The metro Phoenix forecast for the rest of the workweek includes cooler temperatures, gusty winds and a good chance for rain.

“There’s a cold front actually out there right now in western Arizona that’ll be moving through later this morning,” Katherine Berislavich of the National Weather Service (NWS) in Phoenix told KTAR News 92.3 FM early Thursday.

The metro Phoenix forecast for Thursday calls for high temperatures in the upper 60s and wind gusts up to 25 mph, with a slight chance for light showers in the morning hours.

“The main concern with that is going to be more gusty winds,” Berislavich said.

What’s in the metro Phoenix forecast for Friday?

There will be a better chance for rain when a stronger cold front arrives Friday morning.

“We’ll have another system moving through tomorrow morning, early morning time frame. That looks to be kind of the best chance for showers. … We could even see lingering showers into the afternoon tomorrow,” Berislavich said Thursday.

Friday’s system is expected to produce between 0.25 and 0.5 inches of rainfall, with higher amounts in some areas.

Anything over 0.02 inches at Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport, which the NWS uses for the city’s official readings, would make it the wettest day of the year.

With a projected high in the middle to upper 50s, Friday also could be Phoenix’s coldest day of 2025. The current mark is 59 from Jan. 29, the only day this winter when the temperature stayed under 60 degrees.

The metro Phoenix forecast calls for a warning trend starting Saturday, when the high is expected to be in the upper 60s, which is still below the normal range of about 75 degrees for this time of year.

“It looks like we’ll jump back up maybe just slightly above normal by Sunday, into the mid to upper 70s, and then it looks like by Monday we’ll be back into the low 80s,” Berislavich said.
