Queen Creek moving off-leash dog park to make room for new police headquarters

PHOENIX – Queen Creek is moving the town’s off-leash dog park to make room for a new police headquarters.

Pocket Park for Pups opened on a 1-acre parcel at 22526 S. Ellsworth Road, just south of Queen Creek Town Hall, in 2014.

The location was always meant to be temporary because the property was designated for future municipal campus expansion.

With plans to build a new police headquarters and parking lot reaching the developmental stage, the dog park needs a new home.

Where is Queen Creek dog park moving?

Residents who like to let their dogs run free won’t have to make much of a detour. The town recently announced that the new park will be built at Founders’ Park, just across Ellsworth Road from the current site.

The dog park will replace the multipurpose field at Founders’ Park and have separate areas for large and small dogs, with more seating and shade.

Pocket Park for Pups won’t close until the new location opens at the end of 2025, the town said.

Queen Creek launched its own police department in early 2022. Until then, the fast-growing southeast Valley suburb contracted with the Maricopa County Sheriff’s Office to serve as its law enforcement agency.

The department’s current headquarters is just west of the property where the new facility will be built.
