Valley temperatures soaring well above normal this week, could reach 90 degrees

PHOENIX – Valley temperatures are expected to soar during the first full week of spring training, with sunny skies and highs of around 15 degrees above normal.

The forecast calls for highs at least in the middle 80s through Friday. The typical high for this time of year is 72-73 degrees.

“The warmest days will be Tuesday-Wednesday, where we’re seeing potential for … at least in the upper 80s, but even the potential for hitting 90 degrees,” Chris Kuhlman of the National Weather Service in Phoenix told KTAR News 92.3 FM on Monday morning.

An unseasonably strong high pressure system is responsible for the winter warmup, Kuhlman said.

“We also have a lot of dry air, so that helps us to warm up during the day, too,” he said.

How long will Valley temperatures be unseasonably high?

However, Valley temperatures will start trending downward on Saturday.

“But it won’t be dropping all the way to normal just yet,” Kuhlman said. “So, it’ll probably be upper 70s to around 80 degrees over the weekend.”

Looking ahead to next week, a cooling system with a slight chance for rain is on the horizon.

“It’s probably not going to bring much rain, if it does, but at least [it will] bring our temperatures pretty close to normal, down into the low to mid-70s,” Kuhlman said.
