Man indicted after allegedly trying to kidnap ex-girlfriend in Glendale

PHOENIX — A man accused of removing his ankle monitor, crossing state lines, stalking and trying to kidnap his ex-girlfriend in Glendale has been indicted, authorities said.

Zakary Preece, 31, was indicted on four charges: one count each of attempted kidnapping, stalking, unlawful discharge of a firearm and interfering with judicial proceedings, according to the Maricopa County Attorney’s Office (MCAO).

The last charge pertains to accusations that Preece removed his ankle monitor instead of facing trial in Utah for multiple charges related to domestic violence, MCAO said.

How did Glendale police find man accused of stalking, crossing state lines?

The Glendale Police Department found Preece near his ex-girlfriend’s Glendale home in late October, according to MCAO.

Officers tried to take him into custody. He then allegedly shot himself in a failed suicide attempt but survived and was arrested.

Investigators who searched his vehicle found a firearm, tracking devices and items that indicated he had been stalking his ex-girlfriend, prosecutors said.

Police also found additional weapons, restrains and surveillance equipment in a rental home in Glendale they found during later investigations, MCAO said.

Preece will be in custody until the trial, MCAO said.
