PHOENIX — Motorists should be on the lookout for restrictions on several sections of the metro Phoenix freeway system this weekend.
In fact, two Valley freeways — Interstate 17 and State Route 143 (Hohokam Expressway) — will have full closures, according to the Arizona Department of Transportation (ADOT) Weekend Freeway Travel Advisory for Feb. 14-17. (All times below are subject to change.)

Local surface streets, which aren’t designed for heavy use, should not be used as a detour, ADOT said. Instead, southbound I-17 traffic should take westbound Loop 303 to southbound Lake Pleasant Parkway to eastbound Happy Valley Road to bypass the closure.
Phoenix freeway closure will limit Sky Harbor access
A closure on another Phoenix freeway, northbound SR 143, will restrict access to Sky Harbor International Airport.
The highway will be off-limits from I-10 to the Loop 202 Red Mountain Freeway from 10 p.m. Friday to 4 a.m. Monday for Broadway Curve Improvement Project work.
With SR 143 closed, drivers can reach Sky Harbor by taking westbound I-10 to the 24th Street or Buckeye Road entrances on the west side of the airport or taking the Loop 202 Red Mountain Freeway to the Sky Harbor Boulevard entrance on the east side.
More Broadway Curve Improvement Project impact
SR 143 won’t be the only freeway affected by the Broadway Curve Improvement Project this weekend.
Westbound I-10 will have lane restrictions in stretches between Elliot Road in Tempe and 24th Street in Phoenix from 8 p.m. Friday to 4 a.m. Monday.
In addition, westbound US 60 (Superstition Freeway) in Tempe will be down to one lane between Rural Road and I-10, and the westbound I-10 on-ramps at Baseline and Broadway roads will be closed.
Further west, 32nd Street in Phoenix will be closed in both directions near I-10, as will all ramps at that intersection.
