A man was killed and a woman was injured in an overnight shooting involving Phoenix Police Department officers in Gilbert, authorities said Wednesday.

PHOENIX – A man was killed and a woman was injured in an overnight shooting involving Phoenix Police Department officers in Gilbert, authorities said Wednesday.
Police said the fatal shooting was related to an earlier incident near 51st Avenue and Interstate 10 in Phoenix, where a man was seen forcing a woman into a truck around 5:40 p.m. Tuesday.
Phoenix police tracked the truck to Williams Field and Higley roads in Gilbert just after midnight.
No details have been released about what prompted police to fire at the vehicle, which could be seen on TV news footage with its rear windshield missing.
Both occupants were taken to a hospital with gunshot wounds, police said. The man did not survive his injuries.
No officers were injured during the incident.

No other details were made available. The Gilbert Police Department is handling the investigation into the shooting.
