Search underway to replace retiring Mesa Public Schools superintendent

PHOENIX – Mesa Public Schools (MPS) is searching for a new superintendent after Dr. Andi Fourlis announced she is retiring at the end of the school year.

Fourlis has been working in the role since former Superintendent Ember Conley was placed on administrative leave in 2019 after a spending scandal.

Hazard, Young, Attea, & Associates (HYA), a nationally recognized search firm, has been selected to help with the hiring process.

The school district is also asking for the public’s help in selecting a candidate. A survey is open to parents, students, educators and community members from now through Nov. 8.

MPS outlined a timeline the district would like to adhere to during the hiring process:

• Oct. 29 – Nov. 8 – Survey open
• Nov. 12 – Board meeting highlighting leadership characteristics of ideal superintendent based on results from survey and additional feedback
• Nov. 19 – Deadline for applications
• Nov. 25 – Board meeting to pick finalists and provide leadership profiles of finalists
• Dec. 3-4 – Meetings for finalist interviews and possible selection

Mesa Public Schools, Arizona’s largest public school district, has about 80 campuses with more than 54,000 students.
