Arizona woman sentenced for drunken wrong-way crash that killed her child
An Arizona woman who caused a wrong-way crash while driving drunk two years ago, killing her toddler, was recently sentenced to over 22 years behind bars.

PHOENIX – An Arizona woman who caused a wrong-way crash while driving drunk two years ago, killing her toddler, was recently sentenced to over 22 years behind bars, authorities announced Tuesday.
Andrea Crespin’s 2-year-old daughter died and two occupants of another vehicle were seriously injured in the head-on collision on Interstate 10 southeast of Tucson, according to the Arizona Department of Public Safety.
Crespin was driving eastbound in the westbound lanes of I-10 in Vail on Aug. 14, 2022, when her Mazda sedan crashed into a Toyota sedan, DPS said. A Volkswagen sedan also got hit.
Crespin’s child, who was unrestrained in the front passenger seat, was pronounced dead at the scene.
Two adults in the Toyota sustained serious injuries in the collision. Two children in the Toyota and the driver of the Volkswagen were not injured.
Why was Arizona woman prosecuted for fatal wrong-way crash?
A blood test conducted after the wrong-way crash revealed that Crespin’s alcohol content was three times above the legal limit, DPS said.
Investigators used evidence, witness statements and computer data collected from Crespin’s car to establish cause for her arrest.
DPS tracked her to an apartment in Chandler and took her into custody in July 2023.
She was initially indicted on 16 felony counts related to the fatal wrong-way crash before pleading guilty to three charges.
Crespin was sentenced on Sept. 23 of this year to consecutive sentences of 12 years for manslaughter, 10 years for aggravated assault and four months for DUI.
Factoring in time served, she is set to be released in December 2042 if she completes the full sentence, according to prison records.
