Arizona forestry agency allocates $2M to 10 wildfire mitigation projects

PHOENIX — The Arizona Department of Forestry and Fire Management (DFFM) awarded over $2 million to support multiple projects designed to mitigate the threat of wildfires across the state, the agency announced Monday.

The grants come from the DFFM’s Healthy Forest Initiative (HFI), which is supported through state and federal funding.

The HFI program focuses on reducing hazardous vegetation as a way to reduce threat of wildfires through prevention, infrastructure protection and forest and watershed restoration.

What projects are getting grants to reduce threat of wildfires?

The following 10 projects, which equate to 3,000 acres of land, are receiving the HFI support:

• Salt River Project Agriculture Improvement Power District: $500,000.
• Pine-Strawberry Fire District: $468,000.
• Timber Mesa Fire and Medical District: $200,000.
• Prescott Area Wildland Urban Interface: $156,000.
• Fry Fire District: $154,000.
• Town of Superior: $146,000.
• Ponderosa Fire District: $125,000.
• Peeples Valley Fire Department Auxiliary: $100,000.
• Peeples Valley Fire District: $100,000.
• Oracle Fire District: $90,000.
