Police say self-inflicted gunshot wound caused Phoenix teen’s death

PHOENIX — The gunshot that killed a teenage boy in Phoenix on Saturday was self-inflicted, authorities said.

The incident took place at an apartment complex near 19th Avenue and Camelback Road around 1:45 p.m., Phoenix police said.

Officers arrived at the scene and found a 16-year-old boy who had been shot.

The victim was taken to a nearby hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

Investigators later determined that the teen’s wound was self-inflicted, police announced Tuesday.
