Cold temperatures to settle across metro Phoenix for several days

PHOENIX – That snap in the air is going to stick around in the Valley for a little while, weather forecasters said Friday.

Expect widespread early morning frost, low temperatures in the mid-30s and highs in the upper 50s starting Saturday and lasting well into next week, the National Weather Service said.

Those numbers are 10 degrees below normal, Phoenix bureau meteorologist Gabriel Lojero said.

Queen Creek and desert areas outside of Maricopa County face the potential of freezing overnight temperatures.

“We’re in a stretch of colder than normal conditions and this will continue through most of next week, potentially beyond,” Lojero told KTAR News 92.3 FM.

A cold mass moving across the area is producing the dip that could last through Tuesday, Lojero said.

“Take all the necessary precautions to protect from the cold weather,” he said, and suggested covering outdoor plants and wrapping pipes to prevent them from freezing.

“Protect pets,” Lojero said.

The sun will shine during the daytime chill, though, and the skies will be mostly clear.

“This cold weather is going to be felt,” Lojero said.

Temperatures start going back up Wednesday, when the high is predicted to reach 60 degrees.
