Rain, temperatures coming down around metro Phoenix over next few days

PHOENIX – A big wet cooldown is heading for the Valley over the weekend and will linger for days, weather forecasters said Friday.

Widespread showers are expected to start falling on metro Phoenix late Saturday and continue until Tuesday, the National Weather Service said.

Collectively, the Valley could get nearly 3 inches of rain between Sunday and Tuesday, and temperatures will be below normal.

“There are a couple of weather systems that will come through in relatively quick succession, so it may kind of seem like it’s all one,” Phoenix bureau meteorologist Austin Jamison told KTAR News 92.3 FM.

The first system from the Pacific will peak Sunday morning, Jamison said.

“So half to three-quarters of an inch on the weekend, then add another 1½ to 2 inches for Monday-Tuesday,” he said.

Rain isn’t all that will be coming down. After Friday’s predicted high in the mid-70s, temperatures are expected to be in the 60s over the weekend and dip into the 50s for several days starting with the Martin Luther King Jr. Day holiday on Monday.
