PHOENIX — Yavapai County officials announced Tuesday a suspect was arrested last week in New York for allegedly supplying fentanyl to a man who fatally overdosed in 2021.

Filippo Alviano, 38, was arrested on Dec. 7 in New York and faces charges which include negligent manslaughter, the Yavapai County Sheriff’s Office said in a press release.

Detectives said Alviano allegedly supplied fentanyl to 28-year-old Trevor Rauch in August 2021 the same day Rauch left the rehabilitation center he was staying at.

Alviano then left to New York, where an investigation has since been underway between Yavapai County detectives and the Suffolk County Police Department.

Yavapai County detectives flew to New York where Alviano was arrested and booked into the Suffolk County jail while awaiting extradition back to Arizona.

“As much as known about the dangers of fentanyl, there is no grace for those who knowingly sell it to others,” Yavapai County Sheriff David Rhodes said in the release.

“I want to thank the Suffolk County Police Department for their assistance in this case and value the time they put into helping PANT bring Alviano to justice.”

The case is the first in Yavapai County where a suspect is being charged with manslaughter due to a fatal overdose that stemmed from dealing drugs.

The investigation was led by the Partners Against Narcotic Trafficking team, a multi-agency and multi-jurisdictional task force.
