Phoestivus holiday market takes over new downtown Phoenix site this week

PHOENIX — In its 13th year, the annual Phoestivus holiday market has a new home in downtown Phoenix.

The two-night free event will take place from 5 p.m. to 10 p.m. Wednesday and Thursday in the parking lot off Fifth Street between McKinley and Pierce streets.

Admission is free, and pets are welcome.

Attendees can shop for gifts from around 200 small business vendors and enjoy food, beverages, music and live art. And don’t forget to visit The Hip Santa and mascot Phreddie the Yeti.

Phoestivus, of course, is a localized riff on Festivus, the secular winter holiday “for the rest of us” that was featured in a 1997 “Seinfeld” episode.

Taking a cue from the classic sitcom, the Phoenix event will include the traditional Pheats of Strength (a rock-climbing wall), a Phoestivus Pole and The Airing of Grievances.

Phoestivus is the Downtown Phoenix Farmers Market’s premier annual fundraiser.
