Fiery crash over the weekend leaves 3 dead, 2 injured in Phoenix

PHOENIX — Three people were killed after their vehicle caught fire when it was rear-ended in Phoenix Saturday night, authorities said.

The crash happened near 59th Avenue and Thomas Road around 10:15 p.m. when a vehicle traveling east on Thomas Road collided into a pickup truck with three people inside and caught fire, the Phoenix Police Department said in a press release.

The three victims in the pickup truck died as a result of the fire.

Two men were inside the at-fault vehicle and both were hospitalized following the crash, police said.

One man had life-threatening injuries while the other had injuries that weren’t life-threatening.

Authorities believe speed is a factor in the collision.

A medical examiner is working to identify the dead victims in the crash.

The investigation remains ongoing pending on toxicology results for the driver and additional information about the crash.
