PHOENIX – A man was arrested Monday for allegedly attacking a Phoenix light rail passenger with a hammer earlier this month, authorities said.

Officers responded to a call about an assault on the train around 5:30 a.m. on Oct. 14, the Phoenix Police Department said in a press release Wednesday.

The victim told police that a man, later identified as 36-year-old Jacob Jasmer, attacked him with a hammer before exiting the train at 44th and Washington streets.

The victim, who sustained minor injuries, dropped his cellphone and house keys during the attack. Jasmer allegedly damaged the phone with the hammer and ran off with the keys, police said.

Responding officers searched the area but couldn’t find the suspect. Detectives later identified Jasmer as the suspect and arrested him, police said.

Jasmer was booked into Maricopa County Jail on counts of assault, criminal damage and theft.
