Watch: House panel resumes hearings on Jan. 6 after monthslong break

The U.S. House Committee investigating the Jan. 6 attack at the Capitol said it will present “surprising” details when public hearings resume Thursday morning.

The ninth session is scheduled to begin at 10 a.m. Arizona time.

The committee’s last hearing was July 21.

The panel plans to show new footage from the Secret Service of the rally Donald Trump attended at a park near the White House that day. He encouraged supporters to go to the Capitol and “fight like hell.”

While previous hearings featured live witnesses, Thursday’s will not. Instead, the committee is likely to share information from recent interviews, such as testimony from Ginni Thomas, longtime conservative activist and wife of Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas.

Ginni Thomas emailed over two dozen Arizona lawmakers in November 2020 urging them to overturn Joe Biden’s victory in the battleground state.

One legislator who received the letter, then-House Speaker Rusty Bowers of Mesa, also testified that he was contacted multiple times by Trump’s team asking him to support decertifying election results.

He refused.

More than 850 people have been charged by the Justice Department in the Capitol attack, some receiving lengthy prison sentences for their roles. Several leaders and associates of the extremist Oath Keepers and Proud Boys have been charged with sedition.
