Man arrested after high-speed wreck in Mesa that killed his wife

PHOENIX – A man suspected of driving drunk was arrested after his wife died in a high-speed single-vehicle wreck in Mesa on Sunday, authorities said.

Mario Galvan, 35, of Maricopa, was booked on one count of manslaughter in the death of Kasey Galvan, 35, the Mesa Police Department said.

Mario Galvan was driving a Nissan Sentra at a high rate of speed on southbound Gilbert Road between Brown Road and University Drive around 3 p.m. when the car went off the roadway and hit a pole that protects power lines, police said.

Kasey Galvan was pronounced dead at the scene.

Officers took Mario Galvan into custody after performing field sobriety tests and detecting signs of impairment.

They observed “blood shot watery eyes, slow speech pattern, flushed colored face and alcoholic breath,” according to the probable cause statement from arrest documents.

The court ordered for him to be held on a $250,000 bond.

Police posted a photos showing the passenger side of the car with heavy damage and debris scattered on and next to the roadway.
