PHOENIX — Mark Finchem is moving on to the general election after winning the Republican nomination for Arizona Secretary of State.

The race was called for Finchem, a state representative, after he captured 40 percent of the votes, according to The Associated Press.

Finchem moves on to the Nov. 8 general election, where he and the Democratic nominee will face off to replace Katie Hobbs, who is running for governor. Adrian Fontes was in the lead over Reginald Bolding of that race Tuesday night.

Finchem made it out of a crowded GOP contingent that included a candidate endorsed by Gov. Doug Ducey.

The GOP establishment rallied around advertising executive Beau Lane in the race, who was Ducey’s pick.

It also included state Rep. Shawnna Bolick, who introduced a bill to let legislators ignore election results and choose their own presidential electors, and state Sen. Michelle Ugenti-Rita, who has long pushed to overhaul election laws.

Finchem worked to overturn Trump’s 2020 loss and has pushed unfounded election fraud conspiracies.
