Monsoon storm brings light rain, wind to Valley on Saturday

The monsoon season continued briefly Saturday morning as a storm brought rain and wind to different parts of the Valley.

PHOENIX — The monsoon season continued briefly Saturday morning as a storm brought rain and wind to different parts of the Valley.

Some areas in the Valley near Mesa as well as Tolleson and Goodyear received up to 0.08 inches of rain, according to the Maricopa County Flood Control District rain gauges.

Although this monsoon season has brought heavier rains, strong gusts of wind were seen in South Phoenix, Chandler, Gilbert and Mesa.

The storm started in south-central Arizona before moving through Phoenix.

The cloud cover and light rain made the high 108 degrees in Phoenix on Saturday, nine degrees cooler than Friday’s high, according to the National Weather Service.

NWS gives a 20% chance of thunderstorms later Saturday night with a 30% chance Sunday and a 50% chance on Monday that will extend all the way through Friday.

They expect temperatures to cool down with the the highs expected in the low 100 degrees each day.
