State Route 87 partially reopens north of Mesa after power lines fall during storm

PHOENIX – Part of an East Valley freeway shut down because of storm damage reopened Tuesday, Arizona transportation officials said.

State Route 87 north of Mesa was open to traffic between Gilbert Road and Shea Boulevard but remained closed between McDowell and Gilbert roads, the Arizona Department of Transportation said.

The road was blocked off early Monday after a transmission tower fell during a monsoon storm and left power lines in the roadway.

The stretch of road, which is also known as the Beeline Highway, is in the Salt River Pima-Maricopa Indian Community.

There was no estimated time frame to reopen the other lanes.
