Police shoot at, arrest suspect accused of pointing gun at officers in Phoenix

PHOENIX — A suspect accused of pointing a gun at police was arrested and taken to a hospital after officers shot at him Friday in Phoenix, authorities said.

Phoenix Police received a call at about 11:30 a.m. from a security officer after he recognized a man trespassing at a location near 27th Avenue and Bell Road, Sgt. Vincent Cole said during a press conference on Friday.

On Saturday, police identified the suspect as 26-year-old Jayden Bush who was charged with warrants and weapons violations, drug charges and aggravated assault.

Bush pointed a gun at the security officer, who followed him, Cole said.

He then walked away from the area and hit an acquaintance with the gun several times before police chased him into a nearby hotel, according to Cole.

Police officers located the suspect hiding near a stairwell but Bush ran, authorities said.

The man was then found with a gun in his hand running up and down a stairwell before coming out of the stairwell and pointing a gun at officers, Phoenix police said.

Officers fired at him and he proceeded to run into a laundry room of the hotel and attempt to hide in a washing machine.

The man was taken into custody after being hit with non-lethal rounds, Cole said.

Bush was taken to a hospital for evaluation.

Upon release from the hospital, he was booked into Maricopa County Jail with multiple charges

It was the 15th officer-involved shooting by Phoenix police and 33rd overall by Valley law enforcement in 2022, according to KTAR News research.
