PHOENIX — After a toasty start, temperatures in metro Phoenix are expected to dip over the course of Memorial Day weekend, according to weather experts.

It will still be warm but Saturday will likely be the only triple-digit day, with the high expected to reach 101 degrees, according to the National Weather Service.

Sunday’s high will top out at 96 degrees before the mercury on Monday’s holiday hits 94 degrees.

Wind gusts could reach 30 mph throughout the weekend.

NWS meteorologist Matt Hirsch told KTAR News 92.3 FM on Friday that people who want to enjoy the long weekend outdoors should still be cautious, even with lower than normal highs.

“Still on Saturday with the heat, we’re encouraging people to stay inside in an air conditioned area,” Hirsch said. “If you have to be outside, drink water even when you’re not thirsty.”

Those who escape the big city and go north will get some respite from the triple-digit and upper 90s heat.

Flagstaff will hit 75 degrees on Saturday before dropping to 71 degrees on Sunday and 67 degrees on Monday.

Saturday’s high in Sedona will be 88 degrees but will dip to 81 degrees by Memorial Day.
