More than 150 firefighters beat back flames at Phoenix pallet yard

PHOENIX – More than 150 firefighters spent hours putting out a large fire at a pallet yard late Tuesday, first responders said.

Crews reached the blaze near 35th Avenue and Buckeye Road shortly after 10 p.m., the Phoenix Fire Department said in an email.

By around 1:30 a.m. crews had knocked down the bulk of the fire, a Phoenix Fire spokesman said.

There were no injuries.

Wind pushed embers across the yard and eventually the fire grew to a four-alarm call, meaning multiple engine and ladder companies were needed to gain control.

Crews surrounded the fire and inundated the flames with water from above.

Teams managed to keep the fire from spreading to businesses nearby, the department said.

Firefighters were still monitoring hot spots at dawn.

Cause of the blaze is under investigation.
