Vehicle collision causes closure on portion of Loop 101

PHOENIX– A collision Wednesday evening between a vehicle and a motorcycle closed the bridge over Loop 101 Agua Fria Freeway and Union Hills Drive in the West Valley for hours.

Authorities said the wreck in Glendale occurred when the vehicle attempted to make a left turn to enter the southbound on-ramp, hitting the motorcyclist who was traveling eastbound on Union Hills Drive.

The motorcyclist was taken to a hospital with life-threatening injuries while the driver of the vehicle stayed on the scene, authorities said.

Both the southbound entrance and northbound exit at Union Hills Drive were shut down for the investigations.

The roadway was closed until about 11:30 p.m.
