PHOENIX – More than half of Arizonans likely to vote disapprove of the job President Joe Biden is doing, according to a poll released Wednesday.

Phoenix-based OH Predictive Insights’ survey revealed 55% of the participants don’t like the way the Democrat is leading the country, his worst numbers in Arizona, a state he won in the 2020 election.

Biden garnered 40% in approval ratings in the poll conducted March 7-15 (margin of error plus or minus 3.6%).

“It wasn’t always like this,” OH Predictive Insights chief pollster Mike Noble told KTAR News 92.3 FM after the poll was posted.

“In May 2021, Joe Biden’s approval rating was plus 10 points.”

Of the Republicans who took part in the poll, 78% strongly disapproved of Biden’s efforts. He fared poorly to them on three issues: immigration, response to the COVID-19 pandemic and the economy.

Of those who identified as independents, 59% disapproved of Biden’s work.

Only 38% of Democratic participants strongly approved of the president’s performance.

“Things seem a mess in general. Many Arizonans assign blame to Joe Biden. Presidents get that – that’s the nature of the job,” Republican political consultant Stan Barnes told KTAR News.

But rising energy costs are “tangible to voters. … They believe the blame is fairly placed on Joe Biden policies.”

KTAR News 92.3 FM’s Jim Cross contributed to this report.
