California man sentenced for breaking into Arizona national forest fee collection tubes

PHOENIX – A California man was sentenced last week to 21 months in prison for breaking into national forest fee collection stations in southern Arizona, authorities said Monday.

Brian D. Lisanti, 51, previously pleaded guilty to damaging government property and stealing government funds at Coronado National Forest, the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the District of Arizona said in a press release.

He also admitted to burglarizing more than 40 national recreation fee collection sites in six states (Arizona plus Virginia, West Virginia, Wyoming, Idaho and Utah) from July to November 2020, according to the release.

In Arizona, he was prosecuted for breaking into Coronado National Forest fee envelope collection tubes near Safford and Green Valley. He stole $1,408 at the Green Valley location.

Lisanti broke locks on the collection tubes to get at the money inside, which had been paid by visitors to the sites, according to the release.

U.S Forest Service Law Enforcement and Investigations Office conducted the investigation into the case, was prosecuted by the U.S. Attorney’s Office in Tucson.
