Suspect found with 220 pounds of meth during traffic stop indicted in Maricopa County

PHOENIX — A suspect accused of being in a drug trafficking ring was indicted after a traffic stop in Maricopa County yielded over 220 pounds of methamphetamine, authorities announced Thursday.

Jose Eleno Luna-Arellanes was arrested Feb. 14 and charged with one count of conspiracy, one count of illegally conducting an enterprise and one count of sale or transportation of dangerous drugs, according to the indictment.

Investigators learned on Feb. 6 that Luna-Arellanes, also known as Carlos Luna Arellanes, was transporting large amounts of meth and was suspected to be part of a drug trafficking organization, the indictment says.

He was stopped eight days later by police, who seized 222 pounds of meth totaling $330,000, according to the indictment.

The Phoenix Office of the Drug Enforcement Administration, Tempe Police Department and the Arizona Attorney General’s Office conducted the investigation in tandem with the Goodyear Police Department.
