Border officers arrest Phoenix man after finding drugs worth over $4M hidden in RV

PHOENIX – Border officers in Arizona arrested a Phoenix man Monday after finding nearly half a ton of illegal drugs worth more than $4 million in a recreational vehicle, authorities said.

A narcotics-sniffing dog aided in the discovery of about 880 pounds of methamphetamine and 110 pounds of suspected fentanyl at the Port of Lukeville, Customs and Border Protection said in a press release Thursday.

Officers found 129 packages of drugs hidden in the roof-mounted air-conditioner unit of the 47-year-old suspect’s 2008 Roadmaster RV. The man’s name was not released.

CBP said the drugs were worth nearly $4.4 million.

“Our CBP officers remain focused on their mission of protecting our nation’s borders and keeping dangerous drugs from reaching our communities,” Peter Bachelier, CBP’s director for the Port of Lukeville, said in the release.

Officers seized the drugs and RV and arrested the suspect, who was turned over to Immigration and Customs Enforcement’s Homeland Security Investigations.
