Arizona sees record tourism boom in 2014

PHOENIX — Arizona is pretty popular and the numbers prove it. Last year, the state saw record-breaking numbers of tourists.
“The big numbers are the number of people that visited both domestically and internationally and that’s a number that is 40.7 million people came to Arizona in 2014 and stayed for one night or more,” Arizona Office of Tourism Director Sherry Henry said.
That record-breaking statistic is up more than four percent from 2013 and has seen continual growth for several years. According to Henry, the increased number of Arizona visitors played a substantial role in the state’s economic growth.
“That is the highest number that has ever been recorded in visitation and not only do we have all those visitors but they spent over $20 billion,” Henry said.
The total number of Arizona tourism-related jobs created in 2014 also skyrocketed adding 171,500 new industry employees.
“This has a huge impact on the economy because when you have those kinds of numbers of jobs being added then what does that do?…it impacts how much those people are spending in Arizona too,” she said.
As of right now, 2015 is set to be another record-breaking year for the Arizona tourism industry.
