Woman dies in New Year’s car crash involving suspected drunk driver

A 27-year-old woman was killed early Saturday morning in Phoenix when she was struck in her car by another driver, authorities said.

PHOENIX — A 27-year-old woman was killed early Saturday morning in Phoenix when she was struck in her car by a suspected drunk driver, authorities said.

Officers responded to a traffic collision around 12:30 a.m. near 38th Street and Greenway Road, the Phoenix Police Department said in a press release.

Authorities said that a man driving an SUV, accompanied by a woman and three juveniles, collided with a sedan.

The woman and driver of the sedan, identified as Crystal Garcia, was taken to a hospital but was later pronounced dead.

The juveniles were also taken to the hospital for minor injuries.

The driver of the SUV was processed for DUI but was released and is awaiting the results of an investigation.
