Storm rolls in as rain hits the Valley on New Year’s Eve

PHOENIX– Metro Phoenix will finish the calendar year with a wet New Year’s Eve as a storm drops rain in parts of the Valley on Friday.

As of 7:15 p.m., parts of the East Valley had already received up to .59 inches of rain, according to Maricopa County Flood Control District rain gauges.

Gilbert and Apache Junction have received .2 inches, while parts of Mesa and Gilbert received .08.

Downtown Phoenix, Scottsdale and much of the West Valley have yet to receive much precipitation with parts of North Scottsdale getting .04 inches, but are projected to get more rain later.

Rain is expected to continue into the evening with a 60% chance of precipitation through the evening hours.

Meanwhile, Flagstaff residents could see heavy snowfall as 4 inches are projected before the New Year’s ball drop, according to the National Weather Service.

The Valley continues to see wet holidays following rain on Christmas Eve when a daily record of 1 inch was observed.

The current forecast calls for the storms to move out by Saturday.
