Teen driver accused of leaving scene after fatal car-bicycle collision in Phoenix

A teen driver was arrested Thursday night after allegedly leaving the scene of a fatal car-bicycle accident in Phoenix, authorities said.

PHOENIX – A teen driver was arrested Thursday night after allegedly leaving the scene of a fatal car-bicycle accident in Phoenix, authorities said.

Jeffrey Ray, 53, was riding his bike across McDowell Road midblock near 34th Street around 10 p.m. when he was hit by an eastbound sedan, the Phoenix Police Department said in a press release Friday.

Ray died after being taken to a hospital.

The suspected driver, identified as 18-year-old Javon Holston, didn’t stop after the collision, police said.

Officers were able to find Holston and take him into custody, police said.

He was booked into Maricopa County Jail for leaving the scene.

No other details were immediately available.
