Arizona ranked as one of the least charitable states, per WalletHub

PHOENIX — It’s the season of giving but a personal finance website ranked Arizona as one of the least charitable states in the country.

Arizona came in at No. 49 in WalletHub’s comparison of the 50 states based on volunteering and service, and charitable giving.

Among the two dimensions used to compare the states are metrics including volunteer rate, volunteer hours per capita, community service requirement for high school graduation, share of income donated, share of population donating time and public charities per capita.

Arizona was ranked the worst with charitable giving and was No. 43 in volunteering and service.

The only state less charitable than Arizona, according to WalletHub, was neighboring New Mexico.

New Mexico was second-worst with charitable giving and No. 47 in volunteering and service.

The most charitable state in the country, according to WalletHub, is Utah.

Arizona’s neighbors to the north were fifth-best in charitable giving and No. 2 with volunteering and service.
