Pedestrian hit on I-10 after apparently running into traffic, DPS says

PHOENIX – A pedestrian was hospitalized with serious injuries Friday morning after getting hit by a vehicle on Interstate 10 in Phoenix, authorities said.

Witnesses said the man appeared to purposely run into westbound traffic near 40th Street before a FedEx truck hit him, according to the Arizona Department of Public Safety.

He was wearing a reflective vest but is not a construction worker, DPS said.

Lane restrictions after the incident, which occurred around 8:15 a.m., caused major delays on westbound I-10, with the Arizona Department of Transportation’s traffic map showing vehicles backed up past U.S. 60 nearly two hours later.

No other information was immediately available.
