Goodyear to close out 75th anniversary celebration with Friday carnival

PHOENIX – The West Valley city of Goodyear will wrap up its monthslong 75th anniversary celebration Friday with a free carnival at the new civic square.

The carnival at Goodyear Civic Square GSQ at McDowell Road and Bullard Avenue is scheduled to run from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. The crowd will only have to pay to eat at food trucks.

The new park, still under construction, will only be open the public for the event. After that it will be closed again until completion next summer, the city said on its website.

The 1940s-themed carnival will feature a 67-foot high Ferris Wheel, games, music from the AZ Swing Kings, a vintage car show and food.

Attendees will also see what items will be placed inside a time capsule to be opened in 2046 – 25 years from now.

Events celebrating the anniversary kicked off in January.

Goodyear was incorporated Nov. 19, 1946, boasting 400 homes, including apartments, and a grocery store, according to a press release.

The 2020 U.S. Census showed the population had grown to 95,294.
