Seventh Street bridge in Phoenix to reopen on Saturday morning

PHOENIX — The Seventh Street bridge in Phoenix is set to reopen Saturday morning after a six-month closure due to damage from a gas utility line fire.

The bridge will open at 7 a.m. after closing Feb. 28 following 40% of the structure being damaged, leading it to be demolished and rebuilt.

The cost of the reconstruction was $8.8 million. Among the work done was the installation of 20 new rebar-reinforced concrete girders weighing 191,000 pounds and the repouring of the driving surface, which required 705 tons of concrete.

Access to city trails under the bridge, which spans the Salt River, will remain restricted.

A refurbishment and revegetation project is expected to be complete in November 2021.

Meanwhile, the trailheads at 16th Street and Central Avenue are open.
