With Cardinals playing, commuters, fans can expect heavy traffic Friday

PHOENIX – Commuters and football fans should be prepared for heavy traffic Friday afternoon and evening with the Arizona Cardinals playing their first preseason game of 2021 at State Farm Stadium in Glendale.

The Arizona Department of Transportation said drivers should expect busier than normal traffic on westbound Interstate 10 from Phoenix as well as on the Loop 101 Agua Fria Freeway in the West Valley.

ADOT recommends that fans heading to the game allow for extra time to get there. Kickoff against the Dallas Cowboys is set for 7 p.m., but parking lots open four hours earlier.

After the game, fans from the East Valley should be aware of a weekend closure on eastbound I-10 between State Route 51 and SR 143 that starts at 10 p.m.

To avoid the closure, ADOT suggests taking I-10 to the southbound Loop 202 South Mountain Freeway or going northbound/eastbound on Loop 101 as alternate routes.
