5-year-old girl taken to hospital after drowning in pool in Glendale

PHOENIX — A 5-year-old girl taken to the hospital after drowning in a pool in Glendale on Thursday evening is now breathing on her own, authorities said.

Police say she will remain in the hospital for further testing to determine if she suffered long term damage, but she’s no longer in critical condition.

Firefighters responded to a call Thursday evening about the girl being found in a pool at a house near Cactus Road and 67th Avenue, the Glendale Fire Department said in a press release.

Advanced life support was performed on the child who had a pulse and was started breathing on her own Friday, authorities said.

Authorities say circumstances surrounding the incident and the amount of time the child was in the pool are unknown.
