MCSO deputy replaces wheelchair for man who is homeless

PHOENIX — A Maricopa County Sheriff’s Office deputy and his fiancée were able to gift a new wheelchair to a homeless man who spent years confined to one in poor condition, authorities said Friday.

On April 6, Deputy English responded to a call in the town of Guadalupe regarding a man who made suicidal statements on social media.

When Deputy English made contact with him, he learned the man was homeless and upset as he was confined to a wheelchair that had a broken wheel, authorities said.

The man said he was frustrated because he’d been unsuccessful in receiving a replacement wheelchair through his insurance company for over four years.

Not long after, Deputy English presented the man a wheelchair his fiancée obtained through an unknown non-profit organization in the Valley.

“Many in society overlook those who are less fortunate than themselves, but Deputy English recognized the opportunity to lift up a community member who was struggling,” MCSO said in a tweet. “This was a true act of service.”
