Tourism suspension extended for Havasupai Falls until 2022

PHOENIX — The Havasupai Tribal Council announced Friday it has passed a resolution extending the suspension of tourism until February 1 due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

The council said “it is in the best interests of the community and tribal members” to extend the closure of its reservation.

Tourist with reservations during the suspension that haven’t been rebooked will be rescheduled for the same dates in 2022, the tribe said.

No further permits will be issued for the remainder of 2021 or 2022.

The tribe has made no reports of the coronavirus but has said they are acting out of an abundance of caution because the virus could spread quickly through Supai Village that is only reachable by helicopter, foot or mule.

To prevent the spread of the virus, the Tribal Council has ordered residents to stay home, except to get essential items.
