More than 1,800 register for free ASU tuition through Starbucks

PHOENIX — While some Arizona State University students are awaiting graduation, thousands more are readying to enter the school at no cost thanks to Starbucks.

Last year, the coffee giant announced a partnership with the Tempe, Arizona-based school to give free tuition to all Starbucks employees. By May, more than 1,800 had signed up for the program.

“These impressive numbers reflect that the students recognize how a college degree can dramatically elevate the possibilities for their income and quality of life,” ASU Provost Robert E. Page Jr said in a release.

The program allows students to complete either a two- or four-year degree in 50 subjects. They can take online classes.

Starbucks said its tuition reimbursement program will save its employees tens of thousands ins student loan debt. The company does not require a commitment to stay on after a degree is earned.
